The girls both learned to surf this day with Gavin McEwan. They are still talking about it and both have added wet suits to their Christmas lists this year.

These pictures were taken in Oceanside.

They found sand dollars this day and have been asking to go back ever since to the "sand dollar beach". This is where Al had his iron man race and the kids found a couple of them on his last race day, so maybe the dollars tend to send their fortune to these shores. The kids seem to think so anyway.

Yosemite

Yosemite National Park. We were truly amazed by the beauty of the Majestic Sequoia Trees. A fun fact: These gigantic trees start with the seed the size of a flake of oatmeal.

So pretty.

I got stuck posing with this cool hollowed out tree trunk, because no one else would. Dang it.

The roots of a Sequoia on it's side. What you cannot see is all of the miniature chipmunks popping in and out of the huge wooden maze. It was fun to watch. The kids wanted to stay and watch the show, but we needed to move on...

As we hiked up through the forest, the kids were excited to see the trees get bigger and bigger. We were also able to see three deer and lots more chipmunks. I think we had a following. It could have been the peanuts:0

The meadow was worth the extra hike. It was breathtaking. And so quiet. Alie and I were here alone for a few minutes, as we were a bit behind from admiring rather large pinecones. As far as I could see, there was green. No people, no tour buses, no sound. Just us with the canopy of trees above us and the meadow all around. The feeling was piercing and pure, and then I felt scared. We had just seen deer a couple of miles back. My dreamy state ended with the thought of bears and I picked up my pace. We started jogging up the hill. Alan had taken Lindsay on another steeper path to see some sort of huge fallen tree, and Ryan had taken Justin back down the mountain with Nana and Hoho. It was just Alie and I. We came across a little one room cabin that had an older woman in it. It was like a little museum, I guess. It had a few animal heads, pictures, and among other things large pinecones. We stayed there, glad to have some company, until we saw Alan and Lindsay coming down a nearby trail. The woman told Alie that she could not take her pinecone home, but that she could put it in the "museum" for others to look at. She thought that was pretty cool. She said it felt like she was in a fairy tale.

Fifteen cousins from oldest to youngest

We have been jumping off this log for years. My dad and uncles did it when they were teenagers. A group helps to submerge the log and then when they let go, it rises up, and the person launches off. Justin is on his way up...

The 4th of July

4th of July week, we drove Ryan up to BYU Provo for his first EFY. It was a perfect time to run away from home. We needed a break from the excitement of moving, not to mention all the dust from our remodel. We love to visit Aunt Lorie! Always such a fun time! Lorie and I made freezer jam, and spent time baking. The kids played with the kitties, swam, and enjoyed being outside until dark (around 9:30, so nice!) We missed Ryan, but he was able to have one night and two days with us! We made sure we did fireworks with him the night before he left. On the morning of the 4th, we walked with him on campus, took him to lunch, and went with him up to check out his dorm room. Lor, Al, and I plus 5 little kids. That was his favorite part:) Actually it might have been his dad's loud and emotional goodbye gesture. I guess we were all just a little excited! He had an amazing experience. It was like a had a newly polished kid for a few days after. He is looking forward to next year.

In the last few months, we have had a few changes in our family. Ryan graduated from Middle school and Lindsay from Elementary. We sold our home and have purchased another about 10 miles from our old house. Even though it was a small move, it provided some big changes. We have a new ward, new neighbors, new schools, and a new home to start making some memories in... Everyone has been so welcoming and kind, and the kids have been excited about the changes. Particularly, having a pool, new trails to run, and lots of neighborhood kids. Now that school has started, they are happy to be so close to the schools. (This is our first year split between 3). Lindsay loves being able to walk every day to school. I am not going to lie, it has been difficult, mostly on me. It has been emotional. I missed so many things. I think partly because it was hard to say goodbye to that time in my life. The time of new babies, growing toddlers, and memories made there. Old friends are still close by, but it is not quite the same. I found myself saying "I miss this, I miss that". We lived in that area for 11 years. One week, night after night, Alan would take me by the hand, and silently lead me through the house and into the yard. We would go outside and look at the sunset. He would say, "The sun still sets here." Silly as they might sound, these words meant so much to me. I am so thankful for my family and for this time in my life.

Lindsay's Spring Concert. The before...

(Yes, she has just recently sprouted up. She is almost as tall as me.)

And the After...

The during. . . I filmed a little and listened. On one of the songs, she and two other girls played a little solo segment. Lindsay loves her flute. She has been asking for her own, I think it is about time. She so excited to keep playing.

Alie's Goin' Buggy Play. Love this 3rd grade play! I wish I would have taken a before and after of this, but these were both during. She did a cute song and dance number as a Firefly. This required her to dance with an actual boy and hold his hands while doing some spin moves. She was really nervous about this. She had tried out to be one of the dancers, not knowing that she would not only have to touch a boy, but jump on his back. What made it especially difficult was that he happened to be "Tyler". I loved the look on her face as she jumped on his back at the end. Hilarious.

Justin's Wackadoo Zoo Play. Super cute animals had their sounds all mixed up. Justin's group of Cows, just couldn't Moo, only Meow. They did this all through songs and speaking parts. This little guy has come a long way since Preschool. He loves to be up on stage. When I asked him what has made the difference this year, he said, "Those Preschool songs were kind of weird mom, These songs are way better, way more fun to sing." There you go. Here I thought it was shyness, apparently it was stubbornness. Either that, or good taste. Those songs were a little weird. On a side note, a couple of weeks ago: To challenge Justin to read harder chapter books, I told him I would pay him $2.50/book. As warped as this may seem, I offer the kids "money chores" sometimes, ones that are different from their non-paid ones. Cleaning out the pantry, vacuuming the car, etc, etc. Reading is almost as important as work, right? Anyways, He is extremely motivated by money, but he is also extremely intimidated of things that he thinks are too difficult for him to accomplish. I was interested to see how this would play out. What would win? Let's just say the kid always has his nose in a book lately. He is finishing one book every other day. Yikes. On the weekends, he goes through them faster. He goes to bed reading(even after being somewhat lulled from the scriptures), and when I go in to wake him up in the morning, he is already up and reading. Besides being a little grumpier from a little less sleep, the kid has really improved, and so has his confidence. I on the other hand, had wished I had made it .50 cents. Last night, we went to Target, to buy a Lego set. Now, he is broke, and motivated all over again. What have I done?

Maybe, I should suggest he read Harry Potter?

The "Flame Throwers" recently had their end of the season Tournament. The girls played 6 tight games. Not quite last year's victory, but well done. Alie and Lindsay loved being on the same team! Today Alie turned 9. She is an early bird, always has been. This morning, she came in for her morning cuddle and wanted to hear about the day she was born. She loves to hear me tell it every year. It is the story of how we gave her a middle name. Faith. It could be that she loves to picture herself as a tiny baby. She does love a baby:) But as she has grown, so has her testimony. She loves to hear stories of faith, miracles, and strength. Did you know that Taylor Swift's full name is Taylor Alison Swift, spelled with one "L" just like hers? She loves to advertise this:) We love this sweet, feisty, spirited little girl. She brings so much joy to our family. Happy Birthday Alison Faith! We love you!!

This weekend Ryan went to his first Youth Conference. Theme - Dare to be One. (One with Christ, Family, and Friends. Stand Strong together.) Food - Awesome. Testimony meeting - Sweet. Service project - Painting benches and Clearing trails. Classes - Strengthening. Dance - Neon. Slow dances - Four. Sleeping - A little, Boys (tents)/Girls (cabins). Showers - Swimming.

Friday after school, the other three were determined to find polywogs down by the creek. They have been asking and asking. We watched and waited only to find shells and flowers. Oh well, it was calming anyways. My nerves needed it.

Spring Break

Arizona Grand Resort. We spent a few days in the sunshine. (About 15 degrees warmer than home:) Just the six of us. I love this kind of time together, especially when it involves water. What a nice way to relax. The parents needed it. The kids ate it up.

AZ Music Museum

To take a break from the water and sun, we visited a Music Museum. There were instruments from around the world to see, listen to, and watch on television screens. We listened with our headsets, and walked through different continent rooms, viewing instruments from countries around the world, and the people from those countries playing, dancing, and singing with them on the screen. Educational and interesting. The interactive room was great. We loved being able to play with some of the instruments we had seen.

Iron Man II

Iron Man Triathlon in Oceanside. This marks the second time for Al. He loves to do it. We love to watch. With much less training than he had hoped to have, he lived through it, and finished in just over 6 hours at 6:14. Early morning swim, bike, & run. 70.3 miles. Fun.

All of our doubts of whether or not we are parenting adequately, if we are doing enough, etc etc, have gone out the window for a least a couple of hours. These are the best kinds of love notes. Justin made one of these for every one in the family. Each sticky sweet. I thought it was funny that he told each of the girls that they were "the best sister". Each signed on the back, Happy Valentimes. I heart you, Justin. ( I think he has mastered his heart making).

Winter Break

This week the kids had the week off for Winter Break. We went up to Big Bear for a couple of days to ski. Ryan broke his arm on the last day. A board. A jump. An unfortunate fall. He broke the largest bone is his upper body, near the shoulder on his right side. For now, it is casted, but, he will need to have surgery. The positives ( we are trying to focus on them ) : He was wearing a helmet. His collarbone and back are fine. He has been getting a lot of Jamba Juice, and sympathy from the cat. He is sleeping in a sweet hospital bed in the family room (Thanks Naylors). We are saving a TON of money in water, (no showering.) He is eager to go to school. And . . . It didn't happen on Valentine's Day.

This is what did happen on the 14th.

Knott's

To celebrate Ryan's birthday, we went to Knott's Berry Farm. This was the first time for the kids. Alan and I hadn't been in 17 years. The kids loved it! The log ride was a favorite. Justin loved seeing Snoopy. The Wild West Stunt show (aka, valvestoonshow), brought back memories of our newlywed days. Chicken Dinner restaurant, yummy. The kids loved seeing the "Old West" and learning about Mr. Knott, boysenberries, mining, panning for gold, and all the stuff that goes with an Old Town. It felt somewhat like a ghost town, not many people out this day. Ryan, Lindsay, and Alan went on Montezuma's revenge multiple times, without any vomit. I was impressed. Not nearly Disneyland in cleanliness, but worth the trip. Lindsay had several quotes of the day, (1) "Let's not let other 11 years of my life go by without coming back, ok?" (2) When hearing the chickens in the bushes, " I feel sorry for the chickens that come around this place, because when they do, it's like hell for them." Best fried chicken around:) Thanks for giving us a reason to celebrate Ryan, we love you! Happy b-day!

Holiday

Repetitive. Redundant. More of the same. We love to go to Coronado. I feel like I have done at least two or three posts of it in the past, but oh well, it was what we did for our day off, and it went something like this. Nana had never been, and she was here visiting, so we wanted to take her. The weather was perfect. People were flying kites, sunbathing on the grass, picnicking, chasing birds, it was that kind of a day.

We had lunch and played before heading down to the landing. Why is it that food tastes so much better when it is eaten outdoors? Turkey sandwiches, kettle cooked potato chips, and cherry 7 up, yummy.

The water was really low this time. If you look closely (below), you can see all of the white birds at the base of the water. The green mossy rocks were covered with little crabs. Who needs a bucket, when you can corral them with rocks?

Tonight before bed, the girls put on their matching nightgowns and dressed their babies alike. "Take a picture mom, so we can remember." Music to my ears. They look so old in this picture. I know in five years from now, I will think the opposite. On each doll's shoulder is a clip on bird. That was Lindsay's touch. Alie is such a little mother. She still carries around Justin, (yep, he lets her). She might as well while she can, although she might have a crooked back later in life. A friend told me that in the car, Alie named 50 babies that she knew. 50. Crazy.

I wish time would slow down a bit.

The New Year!

We celebrated the New Year in Big Bear. Lots of snow. Colder than usual, (yes, we are wimpy). Sledding tracks through the shrubs. Snowball fights, angels, and all that jazz. The kids wanted to stay longer. Justin informed me that when he grows up, he wants to live in Big Bear. Lindsay too. I think they just like the change of scenery:) They all agreed that cabins are much better than houses. I like the stuff that goes along with them. Family. Games. Food. Cozy Sleeping arrangements.

Christmas

Christmas at Mimi and Papa's house! We had our traditional pancake breakfast and Nativity. We exchanged our presents and spent the day singing and dancing with the Beck's new Karaoke machine. We captured some sweet dance moves on video (grown-ups included).

Our Day at the Zoo. It was nice to spend the day together walking the trails and pathways. Big cats, Monkeys, Otters, Polar bears, etc. etc. The kids even enjoyed the dung beetles. (They were kind of pretty). Yup. It was a good day. Clear air (well, mostly) from the rain, Ice cream, Churros, and 4 Stinky kids.

Santa

A visit to Santa and Mrs. Claus at the "Huish Christmas House". The rain cleared just in time. We watched the moon pop out from behind the dark clouds as we stood in line to see Santa. I think they were more amazed by that, than the big man himself. To prepare for visitors, they literally empty out the downstairs, and fill each room with toys and collectibles. We love to ooh and ahh over all the lights and toys. The back yard is even filled with themed little houses full of more stuff. After being overstimulated, we headed home for a long winter's nap. Rain, please do the same.

The Storehouse. They have been asking to go back. I am so glad we did. It was nice to go this time of year. The kids work hard. They don't complain. They don't fight. Best of all, they get a good feeling as they serve. I am so thankful for this place. It is a wonderful resource, super organized, and has such a good feeling there. We had a dinner break, in which they fed us tacos and homemade egg nog ice cream. What a treat!

The kids gasped as we pulled up to the Smith's house. When I asked what was wrong, they told me to look up. The tree in their front yard was the most beautiful bright red! I snapped a shot. A week later, bare. That's how we have seasons here in San Diego. Subtle, but apparent.

Lindsay had her Winter Concert this week. She is loving her flute.

Carmels have been in the making . . .and wrapping, and making, and wrapping. . .

I love that they love my "Tracing Machine". A lightboard my dad made for me Christmas 1978.

Thanksgiving at Nana's house. Our visit lasted 4 days. It is never long enough. Highlights: Kites. Cowboys. Cousin sleepovers. Two gobbling turkeys. Land. Family. Girls Night Out. Annual Rocket launching. Boys and guns. Shopping. Feasting. Drawing on the wallpaper stripped walls. Babies. Dirty shoes. Thank you Nana and Hoho!

Launching the rockets is fun. Retrieving them is even more so. Once a rocket, is shot into the sky, the search begins! As long as they keep coming back (in one piece), they are launched over and over again.

Today was Alan's birthday! Shout Hooray!! We went to see Harry Potter while the kids were in school. Mimi, Papa, The New Papa, & Andi and kids came down for an early dinner at Cheeburger Cheeburger. Yummy shakes and burgers to celebrate, and then back to the house for cake and Peppermint Ice cream. Happy Day!! We love you! You love getting those precious cards from the kids each year. They are funny and choke you up all at the same time.

I took this picture of the moonlight a few nights ago. It was a beautiful sight. We just sat and marveled at it. Harry Potter was somewhat like this. Dark, yet Wonderful.

Justin's Kindergarten class has been busy disguising turkeys, making placemats, and preparing for their "Stone Soup" feast today. He and Hannah are displaying their cute hats.

Justin thought that the stone soup was so delicious and just loves the story. This particular batch had 3 stones, broth, carrots, cabbage, celery, and barley. Justin ate it all up. They also had pumpkin pie, popcorn, and cornbread muffins. Yummy. He wants me to make the soup for dinner tomorrow:)

Today, Alie had her oral presentation on the Kumeyaay Indian Hut that she made. She was so excited about this. They could choose any artifact to present, and she picked the hut because she said she could picture a little Indian family in there all nice and cozy.

Lindsay's birthday and Veterans day were great reasons to head up to OC for a couple of days! We don't always need a reason, we love hanging out with family, but it does help when the kids don't have school. We had a great birthday bash/holiday/sleepover/movie party! Thanks Doneys!

Lindsay, today you turned 11. Last night, you were a little worried about your big day. You told me that you were not ready to grow up. I bit my lip. You remind me so much of me. Sometimes when I worry about you, I see a miniature me, and know you will survive. You are stronger than you realize. Growing up is a beautiful thing and you have so many wonderful things to look forward to. For now, though, I reassured you that you have two full years until you are a teenager. I asked you if Ryan seemed grown up because he is 13. You agreed that no, he did not. That made you feel better, like it bought you a little time. Take all the time you need. As far as gifts, all you wanted for your birthday was a bird. You didn't get one. You are our little bird. You were so happy with the constellation projector that lights up your ceiling with stars at night. What makes it even better is that it is shaped like a turtle and it projects the light out of the shell. You said that whoever invented it was absolutely brilliant. You also got the American Girl Doll Lindsey. You love that she has freckles and curly hair like you. You have learned to embrace your freckles. We love the tradition of putting up the Christmas tree for your birthday. It gets us all in the spirit. We love you Lindsay Rae, Happy Happy Birthday!!

Yesterday, the girls both participated in a one mile Cross Country Run at the High School. Alie competed against 74 third grade students from neighboring elementary schools. She placed 2nd! It was a tight race, she took the lead a couple of times! It was very exciting to watch. So exciting, I put my camera down as she finished. Lindsay competed against 76 students in her grade and came in 13th! It was a very hot day, about 90 degrees. It was hard, but a great race!

They started on the football field, ran the track, and then went up onto a nearby trail.

After coming off the trail, they were squirt with water, before heading back down to the track and field again.

Saturday Night's Trunk or Treat. I took this picture after we got home. Ryan (Waldo) was able to make it to the tail end, after his football game. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to have all 4 together. Anyways, enough of that. It was a night full of sloppy joes, face painting, cupcake walks, trunks full of treats, Willy Wonka (Al), along with a serious amount of kids.

Wednesday, Justin and I rode the bus to Oma's Pumpkin Patch with his Kindergarten class. This was my last one. Sniff. Sniff. The warm weather, after all of the recent rain, brought swarms of bees. Besides dodging the unpleasantness of the bees, we had a great afternoon at this little dairy farm. We were able to see a baby calf that had just been born the day before, and I got to snuggle with my littlest guy on the bus ride home.

Amber, Ryan, and little Josie came to stay with us for a couple of days this week. I love spending time with my cousin Amber! She is so much fun and just overflows with positive energy. Pumpkin Patch.

There is just something so great about being surrounded by a bunch of plump, orange pumpkins. We just love to visit the pumpkin patch. I had envisioned taking a hay ride at the farm, passing rows and rows of pumpkins on their vines. I was able to go with Justin on a field trip, but wanted to take the whole family. Somehow, time got away from us this year, and I did not know if it was going to happen, but we managed to squeeze it in at the local pumpkin "patch" near our house. Not exactly a farm, but we were lucky enough to have Danielle and the kids visit for a couple of hours, which was a success in itself. We wish they lived closer. We love spending time with them.

Today was my day. Today was a day to connect with others and reminisce. Today was full. Today was simple. It was calm. Thanks for all of the birthday wishes. It was a good day.

After spending the morning with Al, we picked up the kids from school and headed to our local Nickel Arcade. Alan hit the jackpot on one of the games and together we won enough tickets for everyone to get a pair of vampire teeth, glow in the dark duckies and other "exciting" prizes. We walked over to CPK just as it started to drizzle again. It was a lovely early dinner, lasting about 35 minutes to be exact, getting us back home for Ry's football.

Miracle on 34th Street. Cake. Hot Cocoa. Cuddling. Guitar. More music. Sunset. These things filled the rest of the night.

Our School Carnival. Heavy mist gave the night a genuinely spooky feel.

Nana and Hoho came for a quick weekend visit. We loved having them here!

The girls won goldfish. (They over fed them, we think, or it was just the excitement of the evening, and they died the next morning. Whoops.) It was fun for the night anyway. They were so happy to win them!

My bigger guy spent most of the night with his buddies trying to win 2 liter bottles of soda. I am not sure how much it cost him, but he won 4 bottles. We had soda floats when we got home.

Alie spends most of her time on the soccer field. She works hard and practices long. I am so proud of her. This team has been quite challenging for her, but she has hung in there. She loves to practice and loves the time she and her dad have together in the car driving ( which is a lot). Whether it is to a tournament or her bi-weekly practices, she really enjoys this time. She sings her heart out in the car, and has found new loves in music. Dixie Chicks is what she is loving right now. She can sing every word. Scary, yet catchy.

Lindsay is learning to play the flute for 5th grade band. She loves to practice. Ryan told me that if he would have practiced his violin more, he could have probably gotten pretty good too. You think? hmm, novel concept. Anyway, she wants more than anything to purchase a flute of her own and take private lessons. We'll see . . .

Alie is now asking to play the piano. After watching Little Women the other night, she fell in love with Beth. She keeps asking when we can watch it again. She attempts to play along with Lindsay as she plays happy birthday or twinkle twinkle. We have quite the interesting sound in our house right now. Hey, I'll take what I can get.

My littlest guy is now in all day Kindergarten. I sure miss him.

He loves to read and write words. He told me yesterday, he thinks he is ready for a chapter book. He has been writing words on sticky notes and labeling the house for me. He also can make a pretty mean vampire. We have about 25 vampires floating around our house with a lot of scotch tape. Mimi would feel right at home.

Mom, Mom, you have got to see this. Hurry mom! A phrase, often heard. right? Tonight, I heard it a lot. The sky was amazing tonight. Justin must have snapped 2 dozen pictures with my phone. This weather has been really unusual. High temps., followed by thunder, lightning, and rain. It has been very exciting around here. The kids had a small fire near the school that was caused by the lightning. Justin was impressed. Ryan even risked his life at football practice, under a lightning rod sky. The coolest thing though, was last night's rainbow. It turned out to be a double rainbow! So cool.

The girls wanted a picture of them under it.

The backyard was spectacular. This was Justin's view from the bathtub upstairs. I heard Mom, mom. . . again. He had all of the shutters open and he was standing up pointing out to the sky. He said he was looking for more rainbows, but found cotton candy sky instead.

I have been trying to live more "in the moment" and not behind my camera. So, when it was time for our ward beach party on Friday night, I packed up our sweatshirts and boogie boards, and grabbed the beach bag (minus the camera). Last time I went to the beach I ended up taking pictures with my phone, but I knew mine was dead, so I was good. Well, so I thought. As the sun started to set, and the colors starting forming around the clouds, I just couldn't take it. I keep a "spare" in the car, you know for emergencies. It is old, and doesn't really hold a charge well, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The sunset was so beautiful, could you blame me? I snapped just a few, trying not to take away from the moment, but wanting to remember. I will remember holding onto three soggy children, with sticky smore faces, and watching their amazement as the sun was sucked down into the water. It is like new babies, amazing and beautiful every time. Ok, so maybe I am a little over the top, but it is pretty cool. Justin said that was the coolest thing he had ever seen. He is still talking about how once the bottom of the sun touches the water, it just gets sucked right down in "like 2 minutes". Ryan was at football, so we will have to go back soon and relive it all over again. And then again. Without the camera. Wink. I am so glad the kids love the beach as much as I do. I love that they ask me even before we get in the car if we can come back tomorrow. It makes for a happy momma.

Today Justin took off on his bike and was so excited! Alan took off his pedals and he went down the driveway a couple of times to practice balancing with his feet off the ground. (Thanks to You Tube tips). That's all it took. Pedals were put back on, and he was one happy kid! This video looks somewhat unsafe, no need to worry (Nan & Mimi), the girls were out on the main street on traffic duty watching for cars. Awesome, Justin, bring on the family bike rides! I know what we are doing on Monday night. The park might be a better place to start. Thanks Ry for putting together this video clip for me. And no worries about the end of this clip, it was followed by an "I did it" and a high five with daddy. No blood. Phew.

Ryan's First Game was on Saturday night. Football is new for us. It was exciting to watch. The team played hard. The girls were enamored by the cheerleaders, Justin by the "jungle gym" underneath the bleachers. Fun time, but not a victory for the Poway Raiders. In the top picture, he is in the front middle. He is #11.

I love that his eyes are closed as he is giving it all that he's got!

Our Last Summer Sunset . . .

Tomorrow the kids start school. The weather has warmed up right on schedule. We tried to stay cool this week and enjoy our last week of summer. Sniff. Sniff.

Big Bear Weekend Part II. We took the kids to the Animal Rescue Reserve. It is a tiny "zoo" where injured animals from the surrounding area are taken. Some are missing limbs, some just need TLC, but all are fun to watch. Some favorites were: The one armed Bear who performed Kung Fu with a stick. The Sitting Bear. The Sleeping Fox. The Wrestling Coyotes. Sarah, Percy, and Bill ( three baby owls). The Bald Eagle Brothers. The "Statue" owl. Snowy owl. There were a lot of owls. Lots of Wildlife Fun.

Lindsay loved this guy. His expression was hilarious.

Back at the cabin, the kids worked all afternoon and into the night digging up rocks with sticks and making a fort. They were filthy and happy on our ride down the mountain.

Legoland

The weather was warm, we had 9 cousins all together, the summer is nearly over, so what better time to take a trip to Legoland to check out the new water park? Thanks for the nudges Lorie and Brady, we had not been since Ryan was five. He still managed to cram his adult sized body into some of the "6-12" year old rides. He hasn't been 13 for a whole year yet, and Justin will be 6 in less than a year, so we sort of made it work. A crowded day, but overall, a success.

Some braved the slides, others went on the lazy river. That is, until someone pooped, and it had to get cleared out for an hour. It happens. Glad we were on the slides:)

As I pulled these pictures off of my camera for the week, I was reminded of life's little lessons. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Each picture deserves just a few. . .

Justin learned how to cut his own steak while listening to music. Doesn't music seem to make any task easier? Nothing else can inspire, touch, reveal, or motivate more. A plugged in tactic, he has most likely learned from his brother.

The lessons we learn from work are lifelong. The kids helped Ryan cut down and dig up the peach tree. (The squirrels were winning). Merit badges are fabulous. (Mostly)

Summer thunderstorms were discovered to be warm and fun, so what better time to go dancing in the streets with bathing suits and rainboots? The kids wanted me to do the same. Tempting.

At a water park day, the kids learned that rolling down the big, grassy hill in their bathing suits can make for itchy skin. My brothers and I used to do this at the golf course near my grandparents house. Yes itchy, but no we didn't stop.

This weekend, we learned that soccer tournaments aren't that bad when you can squeeze a movie in between games. Despicable me was really cute.

The kids learned that the ice cream from the ice cream truck is actually not poisoned, however the ice cream man might be.

Thursday - Beach day. These days are not necessarily lazy days. There is some serious building going on.

Bass Lake 2010

Our Annual Bass Lake Trip. I love this tradition. I love that Alan loves it too. We are always sad when the week is over.

We relaxed. Laughed. Talked. Read. Swam. Ate. Floated. Tubed. Fished. Wake boarded. Ate some more. Fed ducks. Slept in. Held babies. Built mud volcanos. Befriended "Moose", the puppy. Played games. Had Movie nights and boat rides to Millers. The "Bass Lake Fairy" made her nightly visit to sleeping children, and we are already counting down the days until next year . . .

They balanced, jumped, and sat on the trunk, and it never got old.

They also took jumping to a new height. They did this over and over again. Justin loved this. What a brave little guy! No picture, just the one in my head.

Every night as the sun went down, the kids would fish. Lindsay, Grams, and the boys baited the worms and crickets. Kids hooked fish left and right. The bucket would fill up with a family of fish and then we would dump them back in. Good to know we weren't swimming alone.

Ryan designed the T shirts for this year and Grams had them made.
